About Kane Baptist Church

Hello and welcome to the about page of Kane Baptist Church! We are glad and excited that you have taken this moment to get to know a little more about our church.

Kane Baptist Church is a small country church located in Kane, Illinois north of Jerseyville off US 67 about a mile. We hold Services on sunday starting at 9:15 for sunday school and  worship on 10:15. We also have a youth group that is on mondays, when permitted.

We are a modest church that is rooted in bible teaching and humbles itself to the will of the Father. We welcome all visitors to join us as we strive to grow in fellowship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

Below is our church covenant, what we believe the Lord’s supper is, and our church constitution. Please help yourself to these documents, and if you need them, downloads of the respective documents.

Welcome again, and God Bless!

Church Covenant

The Church Covenant is not a Creed, nor a staement by which our Christian worthiness is tested, but a declaration of our Christian aspiration in the Baptist Fellowship.

Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour, and, on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now, in the presence of God, angels and this assembly most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ. We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this church, in knowledge, holiness, and comfort to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines; to contribte cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all nations.

We also engage to maintain family and secret devotions; to religiously educate our children; to seek salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment; to avoid all tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger; to abstain from the sale and use of intoxicating drink as a beverage, and to be zealous in our efforts to advance the kingdom of our Saviour.

We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember each other in prayer; to aid each other in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offence, but always ready for reconciliation, and mindful of the rules of our Saviour, to secure it without delay.

We moreover engage that, when we remove from this place, we will as son as possible unite with some other church where we ccan carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s work.

The Lord’s Supper

You who do truly and earnestly repent of your sins, and who are in love and charity with your neighbor, and intend to lead a new life, following the commandments of God; Draw near with reverence, faith, and thanksgiving, and take the supper of the Lord.

Come to this table, not because you must, but because you may. Come to testify not that you are righteous, but that you sincerely love our Lord, Jesus Christ, and desire to be strong, but because you are weak; Not because you have any claim on heaven’s rewards, but because in your frailty and sin, you stand in constant need of God’s mercy and help. Come not to express and opinion, but to seek God’s presence, and to pray for His Spirit.

And now that the supper of the Lord is set before you, lift up your minds and hearts above all selfish fears and cares. Let this bread and this wine be to you witnesses and signs of the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Love of God the Father, and the communion of the Holy Spirit.

Before the throne of the heavenly Father, and before the cross of our Redeemer, make your humble confession of sin. Consecrate your lives to Christian, obedience and service, and pray for the strength to do the holy and blessed will of God.

Institution of the Lord’s Supper

“For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread;

and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, ‘Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.’

In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, inremembrance of Me.’

For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.”

1 Corinthians 11:23-26

A Warning: Examine Yourself

” Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgement to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.

For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep.

For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged.

But when we are judge, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.

Therefore, my breathren, when you come together to eat, wait for another.

But if anyone is hungrey, let him eat at home, lest you come together for judgement. And the rest I will set in order when I come.”

1 Corinthians 11:27-34
